How to choose a wedding photographer — part 3

A short guide to choosing your photographer: Understand how portraits are made.

Understand how portraits are made.

You do not need experience in front of a camera. It helps to understand the direction you will receive and what feels right to you. In my portraits I choose the light and viewpoint, then offer a simple action. I photograph movement and response while still considering composition and the moment.

That differs from the ceremony and celebration, when I observe real events. Ask how much time to allow for portraits, which transitions are involved and how they fit the outline of the day. Couple portraits, their timing and the actions involved are discussed around your customs and boundaries; photographing together before the chuppah is never assumed.
