Looking beyond the single photograph
One photograph can catch your eye. A sequence reveals more about the light, the people and the way a wedding day is told. Here are a few things to notice when you explore a photographer’s work.
The setting, then the detail
A wider frame introduces the people and their surroundings. A closer photograph reveals an expression, a hand or a small gesture. When you look through a wedding story, notice the connections between images as well as the individual photographs. Can you follow the day and recognise the people who give it meaning?
Portraits and the unfolding day
For portraits, I choose the light and composition and suggest an action you can respond to. There is direction, with room for movement and reaction. During the ceremony and celebration, I observe the events as they unfold. These are complementary parts of a story; the timing and character of couple portraits follow your family’s customs.
The people you will return to
Look beyond the couple’s portraits to parents, friends and the meetings between generations. Before the wedding, we can discuss the people you particularly want photographed and the family groups that matter to you. There is no single plan for every family: relationships, customs and the time available shape the decisions.
